How do I become a member?
We do membership sign ups in person. We are welcoming community and like to meet everyone in person. Book a time through our become a member page, by phone 250-208-8754, or by emailing victoriabarbell@gmail.com
Do I need to be strong to work out at Victoria Barbell?
We are the best gym for people of all skill levels and abilities. We are the home to the Special Olympics powerlifting team and also work with kids powerlifting and Para powerlifting groups.
I'm not a powerlifter. Are there machines and cardio equipment I can use?
Absolutely. We have plenty of machines and free weights in the gym for you to use. We even have a turf for stretching and cool downs. we have one treadmill, assault bike, and rower that you can use. The cardio equipment here is usually used for light warm ups and are frequently available.
Is this gym overcrowded? I am sick of waiting in lines to use equipment at my gym.
We are a small business that has been around since 2018. We are a low traffic gym, busy times 4-7pm typically have about 12-18 people in the gym. Outside of the busy time you might be the only one in the gym or with a small group of 5-6 people at any given time.
How long does it take to get strong?
Most people that are new to strength training typically double or triple their strength in the first 3-6 months when training with us.
What is the gym atmosphere like in a powerlifting gym?
We are the type of gym that will literally cheer you on to get you through your 1 rep max or heavy set. It's a fun place to hang out and lift some weights.
I'm worried about getting hurt from lifting heavy. Will someone show me what to do or am I on my own?
Our powerlifting coaches are dedicated to lifting with good technique and form. Our coaches can help you progress with safe technique and excellent form.
What is powerlifting?
Powerlifting is a strength sport focused on maximizing strength through three core barbell lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift. We use bodybuilding to create well rounded workouts. Powerlifting is more about getting stronger with weight loss and conditioning being a happy by product of strength training.
How do I do my first powerlifting meet?
We host a sanctioned powerlifting meet every year in November with the BCPA, the Victoria Barbell Open. You can become a member here. They have an awesome breakdown on how to do your first meet and what you need for your first meet.
